There is a lot of propaganda about this guy, much of it untrue, but the reason it’s out there is because he scares people. People shouldn’t be scared because he’s black (he’s half) or Muslim (he’s not). The New Yorker cartoon is only scary because people don’t get the joke. What IS scary is that he is a radical leftist with beliefs, ideas, and friends that are way out of the mainstream of America.
Let’s start with the friends we hear so much about:
Jeremiah Wright – his friend and pastor for twenty years is a radically racist priest. Yes, it’s true Obama has distanced himself from Wright now, but only for political expediency. Prior to the campaign, he considered Wright a friend and mentor. Obama’s first book is full of the type of racist angst that defines Wright’s sermons. Famous quote: “God Damn America!”
Bill Ayers – an anti-American terrorist who served on a socialist-minded anti-poverty board with Obama, donated to his 2001 campaign, and helped Obama launch his political career with an event at his house. Ayers claims he isn’t a terrorist because his group never killed anyone. This is only true because their attempt to murder was foiled by members of his group blowing themselves up accidentally while making a bomb. He’s not a terrorist only because he’s a failure. Famous Quote: “Everything was absolutely ideal on the day I bombed the Pentagon. The sky was blue. The birds were singing. And the bastards were finally going to get what was coming to them.”
Tony Rezko – Obama’s business associate, political contributor and friend since 1990 was recently convicted on several counts of fraud and bribery. Rezko made contributions to Obama’s campaigns, held a lavish fundraiser for him, and clearly helped him with a sweetheart land deal that Obama later called “boneheaded” since it was such an obviously fraudulent scam. Here’s what Governor Blagojevich said about himself and Rezko: “Stick with us and you will do very well for yourself”.
These and other associates of Obama (including his wife, Rashid Khalidi, Emil Jones, Michael Pfleger, etc.) all have common threads – they are either corrupt criminals who have no respect for America, or they are harsh critics of American culture and politics. There has been a lot written about these shady characters, but most commentators are missing the point. It’s not so much that Obama is a bad guy – a criminal, racist or terrorist – because of his ties to these people. The important conclusion is that these people define his circle of friends. He clearly comes from a background of far-left radicals who have no respect for America. They think it is an evil empire and even criminal activity is justified because it doesn’t compare to the evils done by our country.
Yes, America is flawed, but Obama and his associates only see the flaws. They have no understanding of the greatness of America, what this country has done for so many others, what a miracle its founding was, how it dramatically changed the world and the philosophies of men about freedom, and how it has been a force for good around the world since its beginning.
Obama doesn’t like our history or our culture. He was raised in a very different world than most Americans. His friends don’t live by the rules, don’t like America, and want to change things to be more like the more leftist, radical countries of the world. That’s what all the “change” is about. He wants to take us to the liberal extreme utopia. This is why people feel in their gut that there’s something scary about this guy. He has many faults – he is inexperienced, he has naïve and uneducated ideas about foreign policy, he has no understanding of economics, he sees no moral implications of partial-birth abortion and other life issues, he can’t give a good speech without a teleprompter. But his beliefs about this country, as evidenced by his corrupt, America-hating circle of friends, are his scariest flaws.
