The advocates of changing the historical meaning of marriage have done a good job at framing this issue to their advantage. They say it is about giving rights to those who don’t have them to make things “fair”. In reality, it is about helping the political cause of a group at the expense of 97% of the rest of the society. It is not about marriage. How many gay friends do you have that actually want to get married? How does that compare to the percentage of single heterosexual friends you have that want to get married?

Unbelievable sequence of NPR stories

This morning on NPR there was an unbelievable demonstration of liberal bias and liberal obtuseness. It began with a ridiculous story about how Amnesty International is worried about five thousand Iraqi prisoners of war being held in prison in Iraq. They are worried because the prisoners have been subjected to such horrible things as being handcuffed, questioned, made to kneel down, and subjected to the heat of the desert. The amazing thing is not so much the ridiculousness of the story. Obviously the things mentioned are not torture – far from it. What was amazing was the contrast between this story and the story immediately following it.

There are dumb people who do stupid things and there are smart people who are misguided. Neither is particularly damaging to society as a whole. The people that are most damaging are smart people who leverage their cleverness to misguide a large number of dumb people to do stupid things.

Dictator Fears

From an Associated Press article from April 15, 2003: “Having declared war against terror worldwide, singled out Iraq, Iran and North Korea (news - web sites) as an “axis of evil,” and then gone to war with Iraq, President Bush (news - web sites) has raised fears abroad, particularly in Europe and the Middle East, that the world’s only superpower would use its muscle freely against dictatorial regimes.”
Yes, Bush has raised fears. He has raised the fears of other dictators and the Europeans that support them that they too will have to confront the forces of freedom and democracy.
