ACLU Bytes

August 30th, 2005 · Comments Off

As I was reading an article on the internet, I noticed an ad from the ACLU that said:

“Under the Patriot Act, your private information is no longer private. Strip away the sound bytes and learn the truth at www.aclu.tv.”

I was intrigued. I have always heard that the Patriot Act was such a terrible thing, but nobody could ever tell me why. I never saw examples, or explanations of how freedoms were being taken. I even searched the ACLU website a while back looking for such information. Excited that they are finally they are going to explain it to me, I click on the link.

What did I find? Information? Actually, no, just more sound bytes! What a lot of Chutzpah it takes to entice someone to a site by saying they will get information instead of sound bytes and then give them sound bytes! It’s actually even worse than that, not only were sound bytes in place of real information, the sound bytes were actually about how the ACLU would be presenting even more sound bytes on the subject. They are producing this aclu.tv site to provide “moving media” and “Do-it-yourself audio and video” resources on political subjects like the patriot act, including short films on the subject (read: more sound bytes).

Not one word about how the Patriot Act is taking freedoms away. Brilliant bunch, that ACLU!

More AP Bias

August 22nd, 2005 · Comments Off

Here is yet another example of biased editorializing subtly placed in the body of a supposed news report. Today there was an AP article about the breakthrough in stem cell research “that could lead to the creation of useful stem cells without first having to create and destroy human embryos” (Researchers Fuse Skin and Stem Cells, AP, 22-Aug-05). You know this one was driving the liberals crazy since they have been there was no other way for stem cell research other than destroying human embryos. This new finding may result in the ability to avoid that. But the liberal reporter couldn’t resist one last opinionated dig in the middle of one paragraph:

“Bush and many fellow conservatives believe it is immoral to create embryos only to destroy them, even in the name of scientific progress that could cure or treat diseases afflicting millions of people.”

The funny thing about this intended slam on conservatives disguised as just a descriptive sentence is that it shows liberals’ own lack of morals, ethics, character and intelligence. If something is immoral, it is wrong, no matter how many people it might help. Morals don’t lose importance when compared to some other choice. Stealing is wrong, even if it’s for something you really really want.

The fact that Bush and fellow conservatives stand by their moral positions in spite of potential costs shows how much character they have. And this opinionated criticism disguised as news just shows the ignorance and moral bankruptcy of biased, left-wing “reporters.”
